Report Possible Human Trafficking
If you believe someone may be experiencing human trafficking, you can report your concerns by calling 1-888-373-7888 or submitting information through the National Human Trafficking Hotline's online reporting system.
All communications with the Hotline are treated as confidential, subject to its applicable confidentiality policies.
Could This Be Human Trafficking?
Consider contacting the Hotline if you or someone you know:
Is being forced, pressured, or coerced into commercial sex or sexual activity for money, goods, or something of value.
Is under the age of 18 and involved in commercial sexual activity.
Is being forced, threatened, or coerced to work or provide services against their will.
Is experiencing circumstances that may involve exploitation, coercion, threats, or control by another person.
Learning to recognize warning signs can help identify situations in which someone may need assistance.
Safety Planning
If you believe you may be experiencing trafficking or exploitation, consider developing a personal safety plan. Your safety should always be the priority.
Trust your instincts. If a person or situation makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, take those feelings seriously.
Some basic safety measures include:
Keep your identification and other important documents in a secure place that you can access.
Carry important telephone numbers with you, including the contact information of someone you trust.
Maintain access to a reliable means of communication, such as a cell phone or phone card.
Whenever possible, maintain access to your bank account, necessary medications, and other essential personal items.
Keep an extra phone charger available.
If it is safe to do so, document unwanted or threatening contact, including phone calls, text messages, emails, or unexpected visits to your home or workplace.
Preserve threatening voicemails, text messages, emails, or other communications when doing so does not put you at greater risk.
Establish a private signal, code word, or text message with a trusted friend, relative, neighbor, or other safe person that can indicate you need help.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
For additional guidance on creating a safety plan, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or through 711 (TTY).
